Who are Healthwatch and what do we do?

How we help you

Healthwatch Kirklees and Healthwatch Calderdale are consumer champions for NHS and social care services. We want to hear your feedback and experiences about the health and social care services you use. We then share your comments with NHS leaders and other decision-makers to help improve the standard of care.

We can also help you find reliable and trustworthy advice and information through our signposting services.

We are entirely independent and impartial, and anything you share with us is confidential.

It’s really important that you share your experiences – whether good or bad, happy or sad. If you have had a negative experience, it’s easy to think there’s no point in complaining and that ‘nothing ever changes’. Or, if you have had a great experience, that you ‘wish you could say thank you’. Remember, your feedback will help to improve services for everyone.

How our work has made a difference

Opening doors: Enhancing hospital visits for patients, carers, and staff’ update

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) has improved their visiting policy after our project and report called ‘Opening doors: Enhancing hospital visits for patients, carers, and staff’ (PDF, 612 KB). They asked Healthwatch Kirklees and Calderdale to engage with people in our areas regarding the current visiting options at Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. You can see how your feedback has helped make a more flexible visiting policy that reflects the needs of patients, visitors, carers, and staff in our video.
